CHIEF Ten Bears
I was born upon a prairie where the wind blew free, and there was nothing to break the light of the sun. I was born where there were no enclosures, and where everything drew a free breath...
-Ten Bears, 1867
"The name Ten Bears comes from the great Native American tribe of the Comanche Indians. Ten Bears (1795-1873) was known as perhaps the greatest chief of his time and was famous for his efforts to negotiate peace between the Indians and the U.S. government. I chose this name not only for what it means (negotiator) but for my love of Native American art and culture."
